ABOUT OUR DENTAL CARE

Dental Care

At Alpha Veterinary Clinic, dental care is one of the most important ways we can support the long-term health, comfort, and quality of life of our pets. Dental disease is extremely common in both dogs and cats, and unfortunately, many pets silently live with oral pain and infection for years before obvious symptoms appear.

Because of this, dental procedures are a routine and important part of what we do — and something our team is truly passionate about. We perform dental procedures almost daily and take pride in providing thorough, safe, and compassionate dental care for our patients.

Why Dental Care Matters

Dental disease affects far more than just the teeth. When tartar and bacteria accumulate along and beneath the gumline, they can gain access to the bloodstream and contribute to inflammation and infection throughout the body. Chronic dental disease has been associated with damage to important organs such as the heart, kidneys, and liver. Routine preventive dental care helps keep pets healthier, more comfortable, and often improves their overall quality of life.

Comprehensive Dental Procedures

Our skilled team performs a wide range of dental procedures, including:
        Routine dental cleanings
        Periodontal treatment
        Dental extractions
        Advanced oral procedures
        Occasional root canal procedures
Exotic pet dentistry for species such as rabbits and guinea pigs

Every dental procedure is tailored to the individual patient’s needs, with a strong focus on safety, pain management, and long-term oral health.

Full-Mouth Dental Radiographs

At Alpha Veterinary Clinic, full-mouth dental radiographs are a standard part of our dental procedures. Dental X-rays allow us to evaluate the structures beneath the gumline, including tooth roots, bone health, abscesses, fractures, resorptive lesions, and hidden areas of disease that cannot be seen by looking at the crown of the tooth alone. This advanced imaging helps us provide a more complete assessment of your pet’s oral health and ensures we are treating the entire mouth — not just what is visible on the surface.

Anesthesia & Safety

Patient safety is one of our highest priorities during dental procedures. Before anesthesia, we strongly recommend preoperative bloodwork to help evaluate organ function and identify underlying concerns that could affect anesthetic safety. For senior pets or higher-risk breeds, we also have the ability to perform preoperative radiographs and additional diagnostics when appropriate.

During procedures, pets are carefully monitored by a minimum of two trained veterinary nurses alongside the doctor performing the procedure. Our team closely tracks vital signs, oxygenation, blood pressure, temperature, and anesthetic depth throughout the entire procedure. We take great pride in performing dental procedures efficiently, thoroughly, and as safely as possible so that pets can return home comfortable and on the road to better health.

Preventive Dental Care

We highly recommend preventive dental care before advanced disease develops. Routine dental cleanings and oral evaluations can help reduce pain, prevent infection, preserve teeth when possible, and support your pet’s overall health for years to come.

Whether your pet needs a routine cleaning or more advanced dental treatment, our team is here to provide dedicated, compassionate care every step of the way.
